The Photonics Center at Boston University
The
mission of the Photonics Center at Boston University is to
identify, develop, and commercialize technologies based on
the practical application of light. The Photonics Center
identifies and develops these technologies from sources
both within Boston University and outside of it, and
provides an entrepreneurial environment to accelerate their
commercialization.
The Photonics Center is a partner with which entrepreneurs,
companies, and government agencies can leverage the
substantial resources of the facility and Boston University
to create new photonics-enabled products and launch new
business ventures. The Center accelerates the development
and commercialization of advanced photonics technologies
and products by bringing together the best ideas,
independent of source, and combining them with the
expertise and resources of the Center, Boston University
and the business community.
Since 1997, the Photonics Center has launched or
accelerated 18 companies that have raised a combined total
of $225 million in outside venture capital or angel
financing. By utilizing the Photonics Center's facilities
and resources, entrepreneurs, companies, and investors have
leveraged these assets to gain a competitive advantage in
the marketplace.
